Trendline — how far to trust it, and where to fold
What Trendline is
A line joining lows to lows or highs to highs. You read the slope of the trend.
It also goes by trend line.
What you actually look at
- Two points minimum; the third touch confirms it's valid
When to admit you were wrong
If price closes through and can't recover, treat the trend as broken.
Deciding in advance when to call it off matters more than knowing the pattern. That level is also where your stop belongs. An analysis without an invalidation never finds out it was wrong.
The mistake beginners make
Redrawing the line to fit your scenario. That's the moment analysis becomes rationalisation.
Try it yourself
The chart above is a real 4-hour stretch of BTC/USDT. The blue line sits at the level this pattern hinges on. Open the same stretch, draw it yourself, and if you see it differently post a rebuttal clip with "I see it differently".

If you call every similar shape Trendline, only the ones that worked stay in memory. You have to count the failures too, and I rarely see anyone do that.

Half agree with the post above. But "you only see it afterwards" is a price-only problem. Trendline only means something if volume shows up while the shape completes, and that part you can see live. If the shape is there and volume is dead, I do not buy it.

One experience to add — I lost *more* after learning Trendline. Once I had a shape I knew, I pasted it onto everything. I started taking trades I would never have taken while ignorant.

My answer to the question above: I do not decide in the moment. What I do when I see Trendline was written before the session opened. Decide mid-session and emotion is in there 100% of the time.

I do not think there is magic in the ratios themselves. It works closer to "a lot of people are looking at the same level".

If you ask why Trendline repeats at all, it is because people behave similarly. The level where trapped buyers get out flat, the level where people who missed it chase — that is what draws the shape. So I try to imagine why the shape formed first.
